Removing parasites and dirt does not merely involve the brushing & combing of your canine friend it should include checking your dog's ears, eyes, teeth, paws & their nails.
The Yorky is acknowledged for its long & flowing coat, to maintain this appearance the fur requires daily grooming. Yorkies possess what is acknowledged as a 'single coat,' simply meaning that they do not have an undercoat.
Most hair soap made for persons can actually irritate the skin of Yorkshire Terriers. Yorkie skin has a lower tolerance to cleaning solutions than human skin does. One of the causes of irritation is that Yorkie skin has different PH needs; so using a human's hair soap can dry your pets skin out causing annoyance to you and him.
Start out by teasing out any obvious labyrinths with your fingers.
When washing your dog's coat, don't scrub it excessively. The cleaning action of the hair soap will lift the dirt without scrubbing, and you chance tangling the coat. It is smart to use a tearless hair soap encircling the eyes and face.
Since you have finished with the hair soap and conditioner the next step is to rinse him off. All the leftover hair soap and conditioner can irritate the skin. If you find that he is scratching excessively since the washing it is probably due to the residue of the cleaning solutions used. So it is useful to remove all the hair soap and conditioner from the full-breed as you can.
Possibly the nicest part of getting a bath is getting dry. Because you don't want to mess his tresses by scrubbing him dry, it is best to wrap you little guy up in a towel and cuddle him for a while. Take advantage of this snuggle time to love your boy up, and enjoy his company.
When your full-breed is no longer dripping, it is time to brush his fur into tip-top shape.
Never brush and clean a dry coat, instead spray it down with a light conditioner, or water.
Comb him thoroughly with a pin brush. Avoid brushes with natural bristles or beaded ends. They only break the hairs and undo your hard work.
Using a long tined metal comb, go over the now clean and soft smooth Yorkie coat. The idea is to remove the snags and labyrinths still existing even since a suitable brushing.
The next step is to assess or reassess your tresses style strategy for your pet. Consider length, age of your dog, and specific needs it may have developed recently due to environment, age, and medical issues before trimming any hair.
Their tresses grow permanently & can become very easily matted, thus requiring regular trimming.
It is equally needful to care for your Yorkie's feet. The tresses between the pads should be trimmed so that it is level with the pads. During you can shape the tresses encircling the feet at this time, it is easier to wait until since you finish his bath.
Trim the tresses encircling his anus to about 1" long, to keep him clean.
To keep your Yorkie's ears upright, it is needful to keep them well trimmed. Excess tresses will in fact weigh them down. Using clippers, trim the upper 1/3 of the ear, both on the inside and outside. The back of the ear should be trimmed in a downward-pointing triangle.
Never attempt to stick anything into your dog's ears, simply merely wipe encircling the outer ear & very gently encircling the inner ear. Look at your dog's ears regularly & become accustomed to their average appearance, this way you will be instantly aware if anything alters.
