Walking through the forest you might encounter a wild animal and you have caught it, bring the animal to the rescue center nearest you. If you plan to take care of the animal you must first secure a permit. Taking care of native wildlife is really important. Also, there are different species of wildlife that are commonly taken care of. The Cottontail Rabbit are rabbits that give food to their young at night. During daytime the female rabbit are not found at their nests. In about 7 days the baby rabbits are ready to open their eyes, then after 12 to 21 days they are capable to live alone. When the baby rabbit's eyes are open you need not handle it every time. Raccoons and Squirrels are wild animals that will rescue their offspring when they get lost. They make several nests to prepare if their nest is destroyed in order to transfer to their other nest. You must not intervene with the raccoons especially the mothers since they are rabies carriers. They are known to have roundworms which could be transmitted to you. The Virginia Opossum are marsupials and so the young is found in the mother's belly. Sometimes, mother opossums are run down by cars but their young can still be rescued. For the deer, a fawn is not lost if it is just lying alone but if it is making anxious sounds, it might be an orphan. Don't get near the fawn and immediately contact the right authorities. Tell them that you like to care for it so that you will be issued a permit. Remember though that the deer is easily imprinted and this is not good for the animal. Songbirds try to place back their young into the nest when it falls. The parents of these fledglings leave their young at a young age and so they are in grave danger from predators. Waterfowls sometimes lose there are young geese and ducks as they follow their parents in the water. If you find a young geese or duck check the area for its family and if you cannot find any, contact the necessary authorities. These wild animals are just some of the most common native wildlife being found by a lot of people. There are dangers in trying to rescue such animals and so you must always be extra careful. Don't try to catch them without the rescue volunteers because you might get hurt in the process. Raccoons are rabies carriers and so don't grab them, especially if the mother is carrying a young. Caring for native wildlife is very interesting but it is also expensive and difficult. Don't attempt to care for the animals without permits because you can be sued by the state government. Native wildlife is protected and regulated animals. Get a permit first so that you are free to bring the animal home.
