Does your nose began to run, eyes tear up and water, and you start sneezing uncontrollable everytime that your family pet comes near you? If you answered yes to any of these symptoms, than there is a good chance that you are one of the millions of people in America that suffer from dog allergies. Before you think that you have to get rid of the four legged member of your family educate yourself, you might be surprised by where the real problem lies. Most people think that the main cause of dog allergies, is their pets fur, this is not always the case. Your dog's skin gives off dander, it is this dander that becomes airborne and leads to a good deal of the allergy symptoms. It is not until the dander builds up and gets trapped in your dog fur, that the hair itself actually becomes a problem. Remember also that when you are treating your dog, it is a good time to step back and take a look at yourself. People that tend to have allergies to sensitive things like dog dander generally have a weaker immune system then those people that are not bothered by their pets. Go to your local drug store and ask them if there is a safe and natural way that you can boast your immune system. There are many things that you can try, in order for you to create a home that both you and your pet can live in together that is suffer free. Bathe you dog only once a week, a common misconception that most dog allergy suffers have is, the more you bathe the dog the cleaner they will be so they will not send your symptoms through the roof. This is not true at all if you over bathe your dog you risk drying out there skin, dry skin is one of the main causes of excess pet dander. Keeping you house clean and vacuumed as much as possible, the more pet dander that you can remove from your home the better that you are going to feel. Purchasing a small HEPA filter that you can run in each room of your house will take a lot of the dog dander out of the air. Vacuuming the floors in your house at least every other day, if you have hardwood flooring it is just as important to keep this floor clean, do not neglect dusting either, dander can build up on services other than just the floor. If none of these steps seem to help you lessen your symptoms and you can imagine losing the dog there are more drastic measures that you can take. Go to you doctor and talk to him about giving you and allergy shot. Even giving your dog their own room instead of the run of the house will help you feel better.
