In the past fifteen years there has been a development of new cross breeding of dogs. Popular culture has dictated that these new breeds of "designer dogs" be small to medium in size, cute and easily manageable; the latter still remains to be seen. So, in order to help you learn about just what new cross-breeds are out there today this article will cover the most popular ones as they will be the easiest ones for you to find if your are in the market for a new pup. The Aussiedoodle is a cross breed between the Australian Shepard and the Poodle. Appearance and temperament can vary with this one but the general look is that of a muscular Poodle that can be taught to herd. They have been known to be predisposed to hip, elbow and patella dysplasia. In intellect they can be very obedient but the key is to socialize them very early. The Beaglier is a cross breed between the Beagle and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. In appearance they retain much of the Beagle look but are a bit stockier in the leg and wider in the face than a typical Beagle. This dog cannot be left alone for any lengthy amount of time and it is very athletic, being a combination of two hunting breeds. Health issues that they are predisposed to include epilepsy, heart disease and ear infections. Stubbornness is a trait of their line and they also must be socialized early. The Bichpoo is a cross between the Bichon Frise and the Poodle. The look of this line is stocky, small and showing of soft face. They are a very loyal and affectionate breed with a disposition to please. Their coat, being thick and curly to wavy needs frequent brushing as well as clipping to avoid matting. Their predisposed health issues are diabetes, cataract and skin disorders. This is a very sociable breed once socialized and are good for apartment living. The Poochi is a cross between the Chihuahua and the Poodle. The look of this line is very much that of a Toy Poodle but with the smallness and higher forehead of the Chihuahua. They have loyal temperaments and are generally good natured as long as you train them in obedience and socialize them early on. Predisposed health issues for this line are skin conditions, ear infections and epilepsy. Being territorial they can be a bit hard to house break but are suited for apartment living. There are many other cross breeds that are still being developed but you will notice one of the most popular breeds to use for these new "designer dogs" is the Poodle. Also, keep in mind if you are looking into getting any of the above listed cross-breeds or maybe another new breed not listed, the American Kennel Club does not recognize any of the "designer dogs" as legitimate breeds and you will not be able to register the dog as a purebred.
